No Wind Turbines - Ever. My stand has been firm. The discussion of wind turbines has recently been in the media as the provincial announced they will be reviewing the possibility of conducting testing for wind power. For residents who live off of Lake Ontario the previous review of this matter has been a personal one, especially for myself and those residents in Ward 43 Scarborough East. My position is the same now...as it was then, I do not support any possibility for the installation of wind turbines in Lake Ontario off the Scarborough Bluffs. I have always been the strong consistent voice on this issue in my community, and Toronto City Hall. I will continue to be that voice. My position has not shifted in any way. I am firmly opposed to any new testing in Lake Ontario. On September 17, 2010 at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority meeting I was successful in having a motion adopted requesting a total moratorium, citing international concerns and widespread municipal moratorium request motions, 50 in Ontario alone. This secured a moratorium off the Scarborough Bluffs putting an end to the possibility of wind turbines off Lake Ontario. The Conservation Authority was reminded and confirmed their responsibility to protect the natural environment, the adoption of the moratorium made it clear to the Ministry of the Environment. Over the years I have stood firm with the residents of Guildwood Village and all residents who reside along the Scarborough Bluffs. The restoration of the Scarborough waterfront has been a very important and a main focus as a City of Toronto Councillor. Recently $3 million have been approved and will be utilized to ensure that this natural landscape is restored for generations to come. My membership on the Toronto Region Conservation Authority has enabled me to work on behalf of all the communities who reside along Lake Ontario to ensure that the needed funding to restore our natural landscape. We need to be respectful of the beautiful vista, and maintain it so it can be enjoyed. |
